EPFO Member Login – PF Balance, Passbook, UAN & Claim Status

Every Indian salaried employee has a “PF” deduction each month on their salary slip, yet many do not track where that money sits or how to access it. That amount can be accessed through its digital system (UAN Member e-Sewa portal), managed by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). Using the UAN login, members can securely access their accounts, review contributions, and take control of their savings.

Learn how to use the new 2026 portal (or UMANG App) to check your PF balance, download your EPF passbook, submit claims, and manage your EPFO member portal account. Whether you are logging in for the first time or stuck mid-process, you will find the exact steps here.

What is EPF and EPFO?

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is a mandatory savings system where both employer and employee contribute 12% of basic salary toward retirement. This fund grows with annual interest, which stands at 8.25% for 2025-26 (in India). It builds a long-term financial reserve. EPFO is the statutory body that manages this system across 147 offices in India. It runs three schemes, EPF (retirement savings), EPS 1995 (monthly pension), and EDLI (life insurance cover). If you are a salaried employee, you are automatically enrolled in all three.

What is the EPF Website?

For most salaried employees, EPF used to involve paperwork and delays. That process has been shifted online through the EPFO portal, also called the EPF India portal or member portal. The official site is available epfindia.gov.in, and the system is now streamlined in 2026. You can access all EPF-related services through the unified portal. The EPFO portal remains the main platform for account management, while the UMANG app supports selected services like UAN activation, passbook access, and claim tracking. This system is designed for three user types, each with separate access:

EPFO Employer Login

Employers and establishments can access compliance and employee management tools. Through this portal, they can handle ECR uploads, employee registration, and contribution payments. The Shram Suvidha Portal is also integrated for regulatory reporting. Employers can approve KYC, manage records, and process contributions through a structured dashboard.

EPFO Pension Login

Pensioners use this portal to check PPO details and access services like Jeevan Pramaan. It helps track pension payments and verify records digitally without visiting offices.

EPFO Member Login

Employees can use the UAN Member login to access the e-Sewa portal. This is where your UAN becomes essential. It connects all your PF accounts across jobs into one system. From here, users can update KYC, download UAN cards, apply for withdrawals, and track claims. This guide covers services for employees only.

How to Log in to the EPFO/UAN Member Portal

Your Universal Account Number (UAN) is the key to accessing your EPF account. It is a permanent 12-digit number that remains the same across jobs.

Important Note on EPFO Claims!

EPFO does not release funds automatically; you have to submit a claim. See below on how to withdraw PF funds from the UMANG app or from the portal.

EPFO e-Sewa Portal: Website Layout Overview

As you log in, you’ll get a dashboard. Here’s what you can do from the menu on top:

You can access your profile, service history, UAN card, and passbook. Profile details include personal and contact information. Service history shows all past employers linked to your UAN. The UAN card is downloadable for verification. The passbook shows transaction records.

Manage

This menu allows updates to your personal details, like contact information, and KYC documents like Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account. You can also add nominees and update exit dates if the required conditions are met.

Account

Password changes and account settings are handled here using OTP verification linked to Aadhaar.

Online Services

You can submit claims, request PF transfers, and track claim status. Forms like 19, 31, and 10C are available for withdrawal and pension-related requests.

EPFO e-Sewa Portal: Online Services at a Glance

Note! You might see “Direct UAN Allotment” & “Activate UAN” on EPFO website but it’s discontinued in 2026. New UAN generation can now be done through Aadhaar-based Face Authentication (FAT) on the UMANG App (Type EPFO, and use settings under UAN Allotment and Activation).

How to Use the EPFO Website in 2026: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

After activating your UAN, the next step is making your account fully functional. Each process is explained step by step with key notes, so you can complete actions without confusion or errors.

How to Link Aadhaar with Your UAN (From UMANG App)

Linking Aadhaar is mandatory. Without it, most services like withdrawal, transfer, and claim processing will not work. Aadhaar is usually linked by your employer. You can check or update it through the EPFO portal. Some users may see Aadhaar seeding options on UMANG, but availability may vary.

Steps for UMANG App:

  1. Open the UMANG app and log in using your MPIN or registered mobile number OTP.
  2. Select the “EPFO” option. And now, go to “e-KYC Services”.
  3. Select “Aadhaar Seeding”.
  4. A window will show up; here, enter your UAN (Universal Account Number).
  5. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number (the one you gave your company for UAN).
  6. Enter it.
  7. Then, you can type your Aadhaar details.
  8. Second OTP verification will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile/email.
  9. Verify and upon successful validation, your Aadhaar will be linked to your UAN and updated in the EPFO database, usually within one day.

Steps for EPFO Portal :

  1. Log in to the EPFO member portal using your UAN and password.
  2. On the homepage, click on “profile information” on right side of the screen.
  3. If successfully linked, you will see your masked Aadhaar number followed by the text “Verified ()”.

Note! If your name, DOB, or gender does not match Aadhaar, linking will fail. You must correct details through Manage >Modify Basic Details and get employer approval. For older PF accounts (Pre-Oct 2017 accounts or those lacking a UAN/UIDAI validation), online Aadhaar linking is not available; you must fill out a Joint Declaration Form, get it attested by your employer (or bank manager if the company is closed), and submit it physically to your regional EPFO office.

How to Update EPFO KYC

Next, update KYC to confirm your identity with documents, like Aadhaar, PAN, and a bank account. Without complete KYC, withdrawals, transfers, and most portal services are blocked.

KYC updates are mainly completed through the EPFO portal (not on UMANG). When you log in, check the left panel, click on profile information. If the PAN or bank account shows “Not Available”, update them immediately. Here’s how:

  1. Sign in to the EPFO website.
  2. Go to Manage (on top) > KYC.
  3. Click the Bank option. Enter and confirm your bank account number. Enter your IFSC code and click Verify IFSC to confirm branch details. Accept the disclaimer, click Save, and verify with an Aadhaar OTP.
  4. Now, select the PAN option. Enter your 10-digit PAN number and your name exactly as shown on the PAN card. Accept the disclaimer, click Save, and verify with an Aadhaar OTP.
  5. Once submitted, bank KYC goes to your bank branch for verification first. The status then changes to “Pending with Employer for Digital Signing“. Your employer must then approve using their DSC. This two-step process typically takes 7 to 10 working days. If it stays pending longer, contact HR directly.

Note! If PAN is not linked and withdrawal exceeds ₹50,000 within 5 years of service, higher TDS will be applied and deducted.

E-Nomination (Must Do After KYC)

After KYC, complete nomination. e-Nomination can only be completed on the EPFO Member Portal (website). It does not fully work on the UMANG app. Without it, claim processing may fail. Here’s what to do:

  1. Log in to the EPFO portal.
  2. Go to Manage > E-Nomination
  3. Update profile details (photo (under 100 KB), address) first
  4. Add nominee details by clicking on “Add Family Details” (Aadhaar, photo (under 100 KB), relation, share %)
  5. Click “E-sign”
  6. Enter Aadhaar number or Virtual ID
  7. Verify using Aadhaar OTP
  8. That’s it! The system digitally signs your nomination using Aadhaar authentication and saves it in the EPFO records.

Now, your nominee can claim funds easily in case of death (see below how). Keep in mind that the nomination becomes valid only after the Aadhaar OTP-based e-sign is completed. If you exit before this step, the nomination remains pending and is not valid.

How to Check PF Balance and Download EPF Passbook

Once logged in, your EPF passbook contains a complete month-by-month breakdown of employee contributions, employer contributions, EPS entries, interest credited, and the running total balance. Here’s how to access it:

  • Log in to the EPFO member portal.
  • In the top navigation bar, click the “View” tab.
  • From the dropdown, select “Passbook“.
  • Log in to the passbook portal using your UAN and the same password.
image showing through arrow that paste UAN and the same password
  • Your Member IDs appear as a list (of different companies). Click “View Passbook” next to the relevant Member ID to view the full transaction history.
  • To save a copy, click the “Download PDF” button at the top right of the passbook page.

EPF Passbook View & Download using UMANG

On UMANG, members have the ability to view and download their PF passbook to monitor their contributions and balance. Here’s what to do:

  1. Open the UMANG app and search for “EPFO.”
  2. Go to Employee Centric Services and tap “View Passbook.”
  3. Enter your UAN and verify with OTP
  4. You will see a list of Member IDs (each one is a different employer). Select the Member ID for the company you want to check
  5. Your PF balance, including employee and employer share, will appear on screen
  6. While viewing your passbook, tap “Download” or “Download Passbook”
  7. Select the time period if asked (All years or recent)
  8. Save the file as a PDF on your device

Note! If you just activated your UAN, wait a few hours before the passbook becomes available. If you see errors during the day, try again during non-peak hours.

  • Enter mobile number
  • Select ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN, or Member ID)
  • Enter details and captcha
  • Verify OTP

  3. Enter your registered mobile number, captcha, and verify with OTP
  4. Choose Aadhaar, PAN, or Member ID to search
  5. Enter your name and date of birth (according to Aadhaar card)
  6. Click “Show My UAN” to view it on screen and receive it via SMS

How to Get a UAN from an Old PF Number

If you only have a PF number but no UAN, here’s how you can generate or retrieve your UAN.

On UMANG

  1. Open the UMANG app and search for “EPFO”
  2. Go to Employee Centric Services and select “Know Your UAN”
  3. Enter your mobile number and captcha, then verify with OTP
  4. Choose identification method:
    • On the verification screen, select the “Member ID” option (instead of Aadhaar or PAN).
    • Enter your Old PF Number (Member ID).
    • Fill in your Name (exactly as per EPFO records) and Date of Birth
  5. Click “Show My UAN”
  6. Your UAN will appear on screen, and will also be sent through SMS

On the EPFO Portal

  1. Go to the UAN service page.
  2. Enter Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  3. Verify OTP
  4. Pick from Member ID, PAN card, or  Aadhaar Card, whichever you have. (see member ID from your salary slip if you don’t have the PF number)
  5. Enter the details and fill in the captcha
  6. Submit and verify OTP
  7. Your UAN will be sent via SMS.

Note! If you see the error “ORA-20001–demographic details do not match”, it means your EPFO records and Aadhaar data have a mismatch in name spelling, date of birth, or gender. Corrections can be done online (go to the EPFO portal, the Manage section, and click on Joint Declaration). Paper-based joint declaration (in-person method)is usually the last resort, first try2026 digital methods, or register a grievance

How to Transfer Old PF to a New Account

When switching jobs, do not withdraw PF. Transfer it to maintain continuous service and tax benefits. You can find the option to “Request for Transfer of Account” Under the Employee Centric Services tab in the UMANG EPFO service. But using the portal is recommended:

Merge PF Accounts Using Member Portal

Before transferring, open the UMANG app and download the full passbook (select all years). It helps confirm past balances and is useful when transferring old PF or checking missing contributions. Then, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the EPFO portal.
  2. Go to Online Services and click on the “One Member-One EPF Account (Transfer Request)” option.
  3. Write your UAN number and click “Get Detail”.
  4. You will be asked to:
    • Select establishment (pick from your PF number that you want to merge or transfer funds from)
  5. Submit and verify with OTP
  6. That’s it. You can check the status through Online Services “Track Claim Status” option.

Note! What to do if you have two UANs?

  • Method 1: Email uanepf@epfindia.gov.in with both UANs. EPFO verifies and blocks the old one. Then file a transfer claim to move funds to the active account.
  • Method 2: Request a transfer through your employer. EPFO’s system identifies the duplicate during routine checks, deactivates the old UAN, and links the old Member ID to your active account automatically.

How to Check EPFO Claim Status

After submitting any claim, like withdrawal, transfer, or pension, you can track it in real time.

Check EPF Claim Status using UMANG App

  1. Open UMANG and search for EPFO under the “All Services” section.
  2. From the main EPFO service page, tap on “Employee Centric Services”.
  3. Select the option labelled “Track Claim” (sometimes listed under “General Services” as “Know Your Claim Status”).
  4. Input your 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) and click Get OTP.
  5. Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number and click Login or Submit.
  6. Your screen will display all claims made under that UAN. Click on a specific Claim ID to see detailed information, including the Tracking ID, Claim Type, and current Claim Status.

Check EPF Claim Status on UAN Member Portal

  1. Log in unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface.
  2. Click Online Services in the top navigation bar.
  3. Select Track Claim Status.
  4. Your Tracking ID, Form Type, and current status will appear.

Tracking Pension

This is for members who applied for a higher pension under EPS 1995. It is different from a regular claim status check.

Using UMANG App:

  1. Open the UMANG app
  2. Search for “EPFO” and open it
  3. Go to Pensioner Services
  4. Select “Download Pension Payment Order (EPS-95)” (if available)
  5. Enter your PPO number and date of birth
  6. Verify using OTP
  7. Download your PPO in PDF format

Note! This option may not appear for all users or regions. If unavailable, you can access your PPO through the EPFO portal or DigiLocker.

Using EPFO Portal:

  1. Visit unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberInterfacePohw.
  2. You can use “Online Calculator for knowing the amount of your Pension” and get answers by clicking on “Frequently Asked Questions”(English or Hindi) as well. To track, click on “Track Application Status” on the left side of the screen.
  3. Here, enter your Acknowledgement Number, UAN, or PPO Number
  4. Fill captcha, tick consent, click Get OTP
  5. Enter OTP and click Validate OTP
  6. Your application status appears

Note! If status shows “Pending in Regional Office”, your previous employer’s service records are still being verified. This is the most common reason for delays.

Once cleared, EPFO issues a Demand Letter (it’ll tell the exact amount you need to pay to get the higher pension). Pay it at the regional office (usually by cheque). Your dashboard will then show “Payment Status Completed“, and EPFO issues your PPO (Pension Payment Order). The monthly pension starts after that.

How Long Do EPFO Claims Take?

Online claims with complete KYC settle in 7-10 working days (but approval time depends on employer response and EPFO verification cycles). Offline claims can take up to 20 days. EPFO sends SMS alerts when the status changes.  If it’s not settled in 20 days, raise a complaint at epfigms.gov.in.

How to Withdraw PF Online

PF amount withdrawal is possible fully after leaving a job or partially during employment if you are short on money and eligible. Here’s when you can withdraw:

  • Retirement: Full withdrawal at 58. Partial (75%) from age 55
  • Job change: Transfer (see above how), do not withdraw (it resets your 5-year tax-free period)
  • Unemployed 1 month: Can withdraw 75%, and 25% is possible after 2 months
  • During employment (PF Advance): Partial withdrawal for illness, marriage, education, housing, or home loan

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Active UAN
  • Aadhaar, PAN, bank-linked
  • Mobile linked
  • Date of Exit updated
  • Old PF accounts transferred

There are two ways you can do it:

How to Withdraw PF online on UMANG?

  1. Open the app, search for “EPFO”, and select “Employee Centric Services”.
  2. Tap on “Raise Claim” and enter your UAN.
  3. Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
  4. Depending on your eligibility, you can choose:
    • Form 31: For partial withdrawal/advance (e.g., illness, marriage, housing).
    • Form 19: For final PF settlement after leaving a job.
    • Form 10C: For pension withdrawal (if service is less than 10 years).
    • Form 10D: For monthly pension (if service exceeds 10 years and you are over 50/58).
  5. Provide your bank details and address, then submit. You can monitor progress under the “Track Claim” section in the app.

Online claims with complete KYC are now processed faster (around a week in many cases), usually without employer approval (except pension Form 10D, it requires a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) from the employer, so inform your company), and payment is only made to your verified bank account.

From EPFO Portal

If you are eligible, here are the steps to withdraw from EPF:

  1. Log in to the member portal with your UAN and password
  2. Before claiming the form, enter and verify your bank account number linked to KYC (make sure it’s accurate)
  3. If “Date of Exit” is not marked yet, go to Manage > Mark Exit first, then come back
  4. Go to Online Services > Claim (Form 31, 19, 10C & 10D)
  5. Click “Proceed for Online Claim”
  6. Under “I want to apply for”, select your form:
    • Form 31 (For partial withdrawal while still employed)
    • Form 19 (For full PF balance withdrawal after leaving)
    • Form 10C [For pension withdrawal portion (possible after service under 10 years, usually filed with Form 19)]
    • Form 10D (For monthly pension after retirement at 58)
  7. Enter your complete address exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar card
  8. If the service is under 5 years and the amount exceeds ₹50,000, you’ll have to upload Form 15G (PDF, max 2MB)
  9. Upload a cancelled cheque or a passbook if asked.
  10. Click “Get Aadhaar OTP”, enter the code, and click “Validate OTP and Submit Claim Form.”
  11. Track your claim under Online Services > Track Claim Status. (see above how)

How Families Can Claim EPF After a Member’s Death

In case of death, nominees can apply for PF withdrawal after Death through the portal. This service is not on the UMANG app as of 2026. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Deceased member’s 12-digit UAN
  • Beneficiary’s Aadhaar, name, and date of birth (as declared in e-Nomination)
  • Death certificate of member (PDF, max 2MB)
  • Bank proof of beneficiary, cancelled cheque or passbook (PDF, max 2MB)

Then, follow these steps:

  1. Go to unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/no-auth/nomineeAppForm.
  2. Enter the deceased member’s UAN, beneficiary’s Aadhaar, name, date of birth, and captcha. Click “Get Authorisation PIN”
  3. OTP goes to the mobile linked to the deceased member’s UAN (not yours). Enter it and click Validate OTP
  4. Select Fill Death Claim
  5. Review employee details, enter the date of death, and upload the death certificate
  6. Complete contact and address information
  7. Three claim options appear at the bottom. Fill each:
BenefitFormPurpose
🏦 PFForm 20💰 Lump sum withdrawal of PF amount
🧓 PensionForm 10D📅 Monthly pension after retirement
🛡️ InsuranceForm 5IF👨‍👩‍👧 EDLI life insurance benefit for family

  1. Enter bank details and upload the cancelled cheque for each claim. Submit with OTP, this final OTP goes to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked mobile

Note! If you see “Members’ service details are required against all service records,” it means past employment data is incomplete (missing Date of Exit, “Death in Service,” or ECR). Check View > Service History for gaps. Ask previous employers to update records via DSC. If unavailable, submit a Joint Declaration to the EPFO office or raise a complaint on EPFiGMS with proof like salary slips and a death certificate.

Common EPFO Login Problems and Fixes

Most login and account issues are because of verification gaps, outdated details, or system delays. Here’s what to do in each case:

My EPFO Account is Blocked

  • Repeated failed logins or missing e-nomination can restrict access.
  • Fix: On the login page, look below the Sign In button for the “Unlock Account” link and click it. If that option is not visible, wait 30 minutes and try again.

Details Not Matching with Aadhaar

  • Name, date of birth, or gender mismatch blocks activation and claims.
  • Fix: Update details via Manage > Modify Basic Details and get employer approval.

Forgot UAN Password

  • Login fails due to an incorrect or forgotten password.
  • Fix: Use “Forgot Password,” enter UAN and mobile, verify OTP, and reset instantly.

EPF Passbook Not Loading

  • The Passbook portal may fail due to high traffic.
  • Fix: Access during low-traffic hours or retry later using the same credentials. You can also use the UMANG app.

KYC Pending or Rejected

  • Unverified Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details stop claims.
  • Fix: Update KYC under Manage and request employer approval using DSC.

Multiple UAN Issues

  • Multiple accounts cause balance fragmentation and claim delays.
  • Fix: Transfer funds to a single UAN and inform EPFO to deactivate duplicates.

My Account Is Restricted

  • It could be because you haven’t filed a nomination. As of 2026, e-Nomination is mandatory under EPF Scheme 1952. If you have logged in five or more times without filing a nominee, EPFO may restrict your claim-related access.
  • Fix: First, unlock your account (See above). Then, as you login, go to Manage > E-Nomination, update your profile photo and Aadhaar-matching address under View > Profile first, then add your nominee details and e-sign with an Aadhaar OTP.

PF Transfer or Claim Delayed

  • Claims remain pending due to employer or service record issues.
    • Fix: Check claim status and contact the employer for pending verification.

UMANG Services for EPFO Members

Most issues can be resolved on the portal, but the UMANG app offers a faster mobile option. Here’s how to use UMANG for EPFO services on mobile:

  1. Download the UMANG app or give a missed call to 9718397183.
  2. Once installed, open the app
  3. Search “EPFO”
  4. Open Employee Centric Services
  5. Enter UAN
  6. Verify using OTP
  7. That’s it! Now you can access:
    • PF balance and passbook (for both members and pensioners)
    • Claim status tracking
    • KYC updates
    • UAN activation with just face authentication
    • Grievance submission
    • Find the nearest EPFO office
    • Also, find your establishment by name or code number
    • For employers, here you will also find the option to track or get TRRN status (see under employer-centric services),

How to Register a Grievance with EPFO

If your claim has been pending for over a month, your KYC keeps getting rejected, or none of the above steps has resolved your issue, file a formal complaint. The EPFO Grievance Management System (EPFiGMS) is a dedicated portal where EPF members, pensioners, and employers can lodge complaints for delayed claims, incorrect balances, KYC errors, and transfer issues. Here’s how:

Visit the EPFO grievance portal

Click “Register Grievance”
  • Select user type
Select user type
  • Enter PF account details
  • Provide personal and employer information
  • Select issue category
  • Upload supporting documents
  • Submit form
  • You will receive a reference number to track resolution.

Conclusion

The EPFO system is designed to reduce paperwork and simplify access to retirement savings. It’s great for salaried Indian people as regular contributions from both employee and employer help build a reliable financial reserve over time. With added benefits like pension and insurance, it supports long-term stability. Log in to the Member portal, complete your KYC, file your nomination, and check your passbook regularly. Some services may change or move over time, so this guide covers both the EPFO portal and the UMANG app to help you access all available options. Stay updated on the EPFO website, and your future self will thank you!
